OS X No Packages were eligible for install repaired. “No packages were eligible for install” is a message that appears when attempting to install OS X El Capitan on older macs. MacBooks are a very popular purchase in Melbourne and around Australia so it is important to understand the reasoning behind why this message appears. I have decided to go with a fresh and clean install of OS X 10.11 El Capitan this time. As I've done a thousand times before I created an install-USB by downloading El Capitan from the App Store and compiled it on to the USB-drive by using Apples own terminal command.

I have a Mac mini with OS 10.6.8, 2 GB of memory and 58GB of storage available on the hard drive.
I am trying to update to OSX El Capitan so I can download the latest version of iTunes (My iPhone 6 upgraded to the latest iOs9 on 10/1/15 and now my current version of iTunes can't see my phone because my phone needs the latest version of ITunes and the latest version of iTunes won't work with OS 10.6.8).
When I try to upgrade to El Capitan, I get the message that 'this version of OSx 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer' but no further information as to why not. Any ideas?

Installing El Capiton on an old Mac Book Pro today, I received the error:
OS X could not be installed on your computer
No packages were eligible for install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.
I checked Apple’s support Matrix (it is a very old macbook pro) at https://support.apple.com/kb/SP728?locale=en_GB and it was listed as supported.
El Capitan Won't Install
After lots of Googling and investigation, I discovered that the date and time were not set to current, the macbook thought it was year 2000.
You can easily reset the time and date by following the steps below:
- Click Utilities on the menu bar
- Select Terminal
- Type date
- Confirm the date is wrong
- Type date 062112422016 (example: June 21st 12:42 2016)
- Exit terminal
- Click Restart
Reinstall Os X El Capitan
Once the Date and time are configured you will be able to install OS X.
